Samuel J. Bransford, USMA 1836.

Born:    December 1814, Lynchfield, VA. Lynchburg, not Lynchfield, VA.

Died:     3 November 1840, age 26, at West Point when he was accidentally thrown from his horse against a tree. He is buried in the West Point cemetery, Section XXX, Row O, Grave 568. Starting at the cadet monument, go North three rows and then East three graves (away from the river). It is a square sandstone pedestal surmounted by an obelisk, each about six feet tall. The stone is broken and repaired so I cannot read the date of birth, but only the month and year. The engraving on the pedestal indicates that it was put up by his widow and children.
