Henry Martyn Robert, USMA 1857

“In 1853, before the Union was split apart, Henry Robert was appointed to the U.S. Military Academy, from which he graduated in 1857.  He excelled in mathematics at West Point, and while still a cadet acted on one occasion as assistant to the professor of mathematics.   For a year after graduation he served as an assistant professor of practical military engineering, and concurrently taught natural philosophy and astronomy at the academy.”   From Remaking the World, Adventures in Engineering [Thanks to COL Gary Krahn for the quotation]

Need to verify that he was a cadet instructor. Check Staff Records.
