Edgar Wales Bass, USMA 1868

1843 - 6 November 1918

Biography of Prof. Bass.

Pappus said that when the old-guard professors of Thayer's time died in the 1870s, the "replacements were all graduates with questionable qualifications to become professors heading their respective departments." [Pappus, p. 378-380]. Is this judgement valid? I doubt Church or Davies had more experience or reputation when they became department heads.
