- Attended Gustavus Adolphus College.
- Attended the Lutheran Theological Seminary in Paxton, Illinois, 1865-1867.
- Graduated fifth in the class of 1873.
- Assistant Instructor of Practical Military Engineering, USMA, July 5 to
September 1, 1873.
- Professor of Military Science and Tactics, University of Minnesota,
September 22, 1876 to June 5, 1879.
- Assistant Professor of Mathematics, USMA, August 29, 1887 to August 1892.
- Retired from active service by operation of the law of March 6, 1912,
having reached the age of 64.
Genealogy:
- Married Mary Cutler Johnson of Minneapolis.
- Survived by his two daughters Mrs. Harry L. Steele and Mrs. Sevier R.
Tupper.
- His grandson John Chandler Steele (#9337) and g-grandson John Scott Steele
(#22799) are graduates.
