William Virlin Morris, USMA 1900

Born:    12 January 1876, Indiana.

Died:    17 July 1931, age 55.

"Affectionately known as the "father of Army polo," COL Morris played polo his entire career and was one of the Army's leading players. When he was at the Academy, polo was just beginning to become popular, and he was instrumental in organizing regimental teams and developing players. He was the captain of the team in 1930 that was runner-up in a tournament in Argentina. While playing polo at the Meadow Brook Club in New York in 1931, he collided with another player and died on 17 Jul 19331 at the age of 55." [2000 Register, p. 1-35]
