Claudius Crozet, 1790-1864.
There is a portrait of Crozet in the library at Virginia Military Institute.
Crozet,
Virginia, is named after Claudius Crozet. Check out the history
of the town for another picture of him.
Archival Material:
Documents:
1820-07-10 Crozet to John C. Calhoun, Secretary of War. Reguests that Mr. Chalres U. Theriott be made a cadet. But his name is not in the Register, so apparently this effort was unsuccessful. [Calhoun Papers, V, 248]
1822-04-18 Crozet to Calhoun. David Bates Douglass wishes to exchange professorships and this is OK with Crozet "as I had no personal reason to prefer either Department." [Calhoun Papers, V, 49]
1823-02-15 Thayer to Alexander Macomb. Encloses a letter from Douglass of 1823-02-15 expressing Douglass's continued interest in exchanging professorships with Crozet. This time it is said that it is Crozet's idea. [Calhoun Papers, V, 481]
1823-02-27 Macomb to Calhoun saying that a mutual application for exchange of professorships between Douglass and Crozet. "As the exchange is thought beneficial to the Institution" he supports it as does Thayer. The wording of these synopses make me interested in seeing the whole letters. [Calhoun Papers, V, 497]

The above is an exam with one question about Crozet. Mentions an article
by Robert Hunter. I wonder who this is and what it is. This is a course
at Virginia Tech by Gary Downey:
