Andrews Norton (1786-1853)

Unitarian theologian and Dexter professor of sacred literature at Harvard. Member of the USMA Board of Visitors in 1821. How did it happen that he became a member of the Board?

His son, Charles Eliot Norton (1827-1908), was a Dante scholar and art historian at Harvard. His nephew, Charles William Eliot was President of Harvard from 1869 to 1909.

I wonder if he is related to: Norton, William A. (William Augustus), 1810-1883, USMA 1831?

From 1864 to 1868 he edited the North American Review with James Russell Lowell.

Documents where Norton is mentioned:

1821-08-13-Norton-Thayer: Letter from Norton to Thayer, August 13, 1821 about Farrar's translation of Lacroix's algebra and the USMA curriculum.
