Jonathan Williams asks Baron, on January 31, 1802, to put in writing his intention of resigning as of this date.


West Point Jan. 31. 1802.

Sir,

As I am bound by the regulations of the Army to compleat [sic] my Roll this date and am answerable for its accuracy, I shall be obliged if you will send me in writing the information you gave me yesterday, stating that you considered the last day of this month the last day of your service as Teacher of Mathematics in the Academy at this Post. It will be well to add that you have received the Secretary of War's permission to this Effect.
