Promotions in 1808
Several of these promotions took effect, according to Cullum, on February 23,
1808, but I have not checked all of them.
February 19th, 1808.
To the Senate of the United States:
I nominate the persons whose names are stated in the annexed list, signed by
the Secretary at War, for the promotions and appointments therein respectively
proposed for them.

promotions and appointments, in the corps of Engineers, in the service of the
United States:
- Lieutenant Colonel Jonathan Williams, to be promoted to the rank of
Colonel.
- Major Jared Mansfield, to be promoted to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel,
vice Colonel Jonathan Williams, promoted.
- Captain Alexander Macomb, to be promoted to the rank of Major, vice William
A. Barron, resigned.
- Captain Joseph G. Swift, to be promoted to the rank of Major, vice Jared
Mansfield, promoted.
- First Lieutenant George Bomford, to be promoted to the rank of Captain,
vice Alexander Macomb, promoted.
