Philadelphia, Pa April 17th, 1866

Dear Hillyer,

This will introduce you to Prof. Davies of New York who commenced his career at West Point before I was born.  This is a fact I am proud of, I may live to be useful too.  I want to introduce you to the Professor hoping you may become friends. - I offer no guarantee for the Prof. because acquaintance will repay.
