Entrance requirements stated that Cadets should be, "well versed in Reading, Writing, English Grammar and common Arithmetick, including Vulgar and Decimal Fractions and the extraction of Square & Cube Roots."

The board requests the purchase of various apparatus for the study of Experimental Philosophy and for the Observatory, as well as 98 mathematics books, including works by Agnesi, Barrow, Euler, Hutton, L'Hospital, Maclaurin, Newton, Playfair, Simpsom, and Taylor.
