Excerpts Related to Mathematics from Annual Reports of the Board of Visitors to the United States Military Academy

1823:

"The Progress made in descriptive Geometry and the Mathematicks in their application to levying plains and to the most important services both in War and Peace from the Pupils of this Institution; were the advantage derived from the Academy limited to this Department of Science I should consider it as an ample compensation to the Country for the expense of its establishment.  What is here taught is thoroughly so; and when combined with Hydraulic Architecture, the result will be to supply every part of the United States with able Directors in all the branches of public works."
